President General Pervez Musharraf said on Sunday that all-out relief and rehabilitation efforts are under way in the flood-hit areas of Balochistan, with the government focusing both on providing basic necessities to the affected people and restoring infrastructure. He told PTV in a live telephonic conversation that the presence of Pakistan Armed Forces in the area has been greatly helpful in carrying out relief activities speedily and in averting major damage.
The Balochistan government, he observed, has been acting fast enough, with the Governor, Chief Minister and provincial officials taking active part in relief work.
However, he added, they have been very ably assisted by Pakistan Army as an Army unit was there, the Navy was already stationed, the Coast Guards and Frontier Corps and Air Force were available for assistance.
"We are very lucky that the military was there to help the people and, if it was not there, I am sure that the damage would have been much more."
Referring to those who speak against the presence of military he remarked that they should see for themselves the relief work being carried out by the military.
