Japan Bank for International Co-operation (JBIC) will assist in launching an integrated programme about institutional reforms and farm research and development in Punjab aiming to improve farming practices. Pilot project of the programme will be launched in three districts of Punjab shortly, details of the pilot project were discussed in a meeting between a Japanese delegation and Secretary Agriculture Punjab Fayyaz Bashira here. The delegation was comprising Hitochi Shimakzi, Chiyo Mamiya and Imran Ahmed.
Members of Japanese delegation also discussed project implementation and co-ordination mechanism with Secretary Agriculture for inter-departmental co-ordination, decision making, monitoring and evaluation.
The project would be helpful to maximise the farming production through efficient use of water.
The project activities will also include social mobilisation, gender awareness and farmer's training in the project area while its feasibility has been prepared and under-review by the consultants.
The Secretary Agriculture welcomed the Japan bank for international co-operation for its assistance through this proposed project and assured all possible co-operation for its effective implementation to develop agriculture, reduce poverty and improving quality of life of the people.
