The United Nations system considers the national response to the natural disaster in Balochistan to be timely, robust and highly relevant. The United Nations system in Pakistan pledges immediate initial support to the national relief efforts of up to the tune of over $100,000 comprising of relief items. These will be delivered to the national authorities over the next few days.
As an immediate step, Unicef is rushing a truckload of relief items including 110 cartons of emergency food rations, 3000 blankets and sweaters, 8000 water purification sachets, 30 cartons of emergency water filters and 2000 water containers.
These items will be handed over to the relief distribution authority in Bela, Balochistan.
UNDP is contributing $30000 worth of tents and blankets courtesy of the UN office of the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs. Also, the will contribute $25000 worth of emergency medical supplies for the affected population.
UNHCR will contribute $20,000 in the form of tents other shelter items, which will be delivered to the victims in Pasni and Gwadar.
Efforts are underway to mobilise further resources from the United Nations system for the victims in Balochistan.
