The trading needed movement on the wholesale commodity markets where prices remained generally firm during the week ended on February 12, 2005, markets were closed on Tuesday on account of death anniversary of Hazrat Umar Farooq (R.A.). The prices of sugar seen firmed after going berserk in the previous week. Govt has under pressure from public allowed imports of around 400,000 tonnes of sugar.
Other commodities reacted modestly such as cotton cakes had shown some gain. It rose by Rs 10 to Rs 42 and better type was quoted at Rs 430.
Plastic has turned lately resilient and variations are registered after big gaps. However, according to rates furnished on Thursday the plastic mouldings moved both ways and changes were in HDPE film Saudia 952 down Rs 1.75 to Rs 40.75, Mobil down same amount to Rs 40.75, TR144 down Rs 2 to Rs 40.50, HDPE injection Sabic 200056 down Rs 2 to Rs 39.50, Mobil 016 down Re 1 to Rs 39.50, Thai down Re 1 to Rs 39, HDPE Kuwait down 50 paisa to Rs 40, LDPE 374 down Rs 9 to Rs 49, MG20 up Rs 3 to Rs 61, MG 70 up Rs 7 to Rs 65.
LLDPE W118 down 50 paisa to Rs 41.50, 7087 down 50 paisa to Rs 41, Sabic 500026 up Rs 2 to Rs 56, polypropylene film Thai down Rs 1.75 to Rs 39.75, Kuwait down Rs 1.75 to Rs 39.75, India down Rs 1.75 to Rs 39.75 polypropylene tape grade India down Rs 2.25 to Rs 38, Kuwait down Rs 2.25 to Rs 36, Saudi down Rs 2.25 to Rs 38, polypropylene injection grade Saudi down Rs 2 to Rs 39, India down Rs 2 to Rs 39, Kuwait down Rs 2 to Rs 39.
BASF up Rs 150 to Rs 3300, Pak was quoted at Rs 2815, Copoly Block down Re 1 to Rs 43, High impact Pak up Rs 58 to Rs 29.58, BASF up Rs 200 to Rs 3300, ABS polylac 707 quoted at Rs 2870 and Khumo quoted at Rs 2840.
The traders noted that govt drastic move to import 400,000 tonnes of sugar prompted mills to cut prices to Rs 80 to Rs 2460, and low type down to Rs 100 to Rs 2500.
Gur low type turned however higher by Rs 100 to Rs 2100, while better type stayed put at Rs 2350, Khand followed gur and showed Rs 100 gain to Rs 2100 and 2500, Barley Sindh/ Mardan was up Rs 75 to Rs 1375, wheat both types shed Rs 20 to Rs 1150 and Rs 1160, guwar was down Rs 50 to Rs 1600/1700. On Friday session was washed by runs as sugar resurged by Rs 20 to Rs 2480, while better type gained Rs 25 to Rs 2525.
Irri white better type up Rs 15 to Rs 1160, Kenyan tea C plus grade up Rs 5 to Rs 141, Bangladesh's Garden pack original up Rs 2 to Rs 107 and garden pack BOP up Rs 11 to Rs 105.
