The National Highway Authority Executive Board met here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Major General Farrukh Javed at NHA regional office. The meeting discussed matters relating to construction, extension and maintenance of national highways and bridges in the country. The NHA board accorded approval for sectoral environmental and social assessment and environmental impact.
Assessment study of National Highway N-5 and Karachi-Hyderabad Super Highway M-9, (National Highways improvement programme) and for preparation of Turnkey Tender documents for highways rehabilitation and maintenance contract.
Widening and improvement of Ziarat More to Khanozai project of National Highway (N-50) sections A & B; geometric improvement of Lakpass-Nouski section of N-40 and extension of time for construction supervision service of Lyari Expressway were also approved.
The executive board also approved award of contract for building of dual carriageway from Multan to Qadirpur Rawan highway.
Additional supervisory services of consultants for construction of Rahimyar Khan -Trinda Muhammad Pinnah (TMP) dual carriageway was also approved.
The meeting gave approval for award of contract to Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) for construction of 'additional carriageway' for supervision of Lyari Expressway, V.O No 3 for construction contractor regarding Karachi Northern Bypass (Package-1) and that extension of supervisory services and additional services for design and preparation of Tender documents for six flyovers of Karachi Northern Bypass (Package II) were also approved in the meeting.
The chairman said that at Agore, Basur and Shadikot on Markran Coastal Highway main structures of these bridges are safe. He said that Makran Coastal Highway alternative route (diversion) will be constructed in 7 to 10 days. He said that NHA is striving for early and quality completion of construction and maintenance projects of national highway all over the country.-PR
