An agriculture research institute will soon be established in North Azad Kashmir in order to bring the liberated territory of AJK in the framework of agricultural development. AJK Chamber of Agriculture general-secretary Raja Ijaz Ali disclosed this while addressing farmers meeting in Bhimber on Monday. He added that a comprehensive proposal has been moved to the AJK government to materialise the plan with the government assistance for the sake of promotion of agricultural activities in Azad Kashmir.
Appreciating the broad-based steps initiated by the government for the development of agriculture sector in Azad Kashmir, Ijaz Salim said that these steps would usher in new era of speedy progress of agriculture sector in the area.
He said recently launched plan for agricultural development include installation of more tube-wells in new areas.
Lifting of irrigation under the National Management Water Resources Project, emergence of Horticulture Section, provision of agricultural machinery under farm mechanisation division and guidance about use of new technology for latest methods of cultivation.
Referring to the importance of kitchen gardening, Raja Ijaz Salim said that the awareness was required to be raised among the people for bringing their lands and farms includi6g the available lawns in their houses under cultivation of fruits and vegetables.
This, he added, could bring about the resources of income and food for their own use.
He informed farmers that the chamber has moved a plan for launching an exclusive agriculture programme by Azad Kashmir Radio Mirpur with the co-ordination of the state agriculture department in near future in order to apprise the people of the huge available resources for agricultural development.
He appealed the people in general and farmers in particular to take fullest role in the ongoing nation-wide tree-plantation drive and plant maximum saplings, particularly of fruit and vegetables, to materialise the dream of bringing about the green revolution in the country including Azad Kashmir.
