An estimated one million people still die every year on account of Malaria and despite advancement in science much is to be done for the betterment of ailing humanity. Government College (GC) University Lahore dean of science Dr M A Kashmiri stated this while delivering a lecture here on Thursday. He said the scientific disciplines were now emerging together to solve scientific, and medicinal problems.
Nuclear science was being harnessed so that it could work in more human friendly manner. He stated the people needed to be taught that nuclear education could be used to strengthen the human race.
The first Honorary Professor in the Department of Physics Dr S M Qaim said among the general public, both in Pakistan and western countries, there was misconception that nuclear sciences were very dangerous.
He stated the fact was that today nuclear medicine world-wide constituted a multi billion-dollar enterprise and every year millions of patients undergo nuclear medical procedures. Radioactivity was unique in the sense that it was used both in diagnosis and therapy, he added.
