Falling trend was seen in the open market on Friday as the rupee shed 10 paisa in a single day slide versus the greenback for buying and selling at 59.60 and 59.65, respectively. Rising demand for dollars pushed the rupee value down versus the US currency ahead of the long week-end, dealers said. The rupee lost 25 paisa versus the euro for buying and selling at Rs 77.75 and Rs 78.05, dealers said. The single European currency posted fresh gains in the overseas market, this factor in fact is providing an opportunity to the euro to gain more strength versus the rupee, they added.
The US currency did not show any improvement in its present level versus the leading currencies of the world, overseas dealers said.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee inched up with one paisa gain in terms of the dollar for buying and selling at 59.36 and 59.38, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee maintained downward trend and further lost its worth by five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar's rate moved up after expansion in its demand. The dollar resumed trading at Thursday's closing levels of Rs 59.50 and Rs 59.60 on buying and selling sides, respectively.
However, at the end of trading, the dollar closed higher at Rs 59.55 and Rs 59.65 on buying and selling counters, respectively, the dealers added.
Similarly, the local currency showed weakness against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 112.70 and was sold at Rs 113.00 as compared to Rs 112.20 and Rs 112.60 of Thursday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the currency exchange establishments of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 59.55 (buying) and Rs 59.65 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change in the second spell and closed at Rs 59.55 (buying) and Rs 59.65 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 112.10 (buying) and Rs 112.50 (selling) against same previous rate. It did not observe any change in the second spell and closed at Rs 112.10 (buying) and Rs 112.50 (selling).
