French mobile telecommunications companies Orange and Bouygues Telecom said on Monday they plan to jointly test a new mobile telephone technology derived from digital terrestrial television. Orange meanwhile now has nearly 50,000 subscribers for its third-generation telephone service launched in December, its parent company France Telecom said on Monday.
"Orange today is near 50,000 third-generation subscribers," new France Telecom head Didier Lombard said at a press conference. Lombard took the helm after former Chief Executive Thierry Breton quit to become French finance minister.
