Cable operators in Faisalabad have been warned to desist from exhibiting obscene and objectionable programmes failing which strict action would be taken against them. The warning was issued by District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Athar Hussain Khan Sial while presiding over a meeting of the persons engaged in cable business in the city.
The DCO said that use of satellite/TV for creating awareness and promoting knowledge was undoubtedly a good thing, but the wrong and unfair use of these facilities would not be tolerated at any cost.
He said that a large number of complaints had been received from the public and social circles of the city against the immoral and indecent programmes being aired by some cable operators.
He said that he never wanted to interfere with anyone's business, but the obscenity, being spread through cables, would not be allowed.
He directed the cable-operators to continue social and informative programmes, but shun the practice of exhibiting obscene and indecent programmes and realise their national, moral and social obligations.
The DCO also constituted a committee to make a strategy and chalk out a code of ethics for discouraging the display of obscene programmes over the cable.
Besides, District Officer (Co-ordination) Malik Muhammad Aslam, Superintendent of police (city) Abdul Mateen, Senior Administrative Officer Liaquat Ali Chatha, cable-operators Muhammad Abid, Shakeel Ahmad Awan, Muhamamd Sharif, Muhammad Razzaq, Muhammad Arif, Ali Ishaque, Taj Mahmood, Ashfaque Hussain, Saeed Ahmad, Zahid and Nadeem Sindhu also attenede the meeting.
