imageOffers of Independence Day accessories have expanded by 100 for each penny as the country seems more eager in observing August 14 this year breaking all business records of earlier years, merchants said.

President All Karachi Tajir Itehad Atiq Mir estimated Rs10bn sales of various items in Karachi this year as compared to Rs5bn in 2015, while sales in Lahore are estimated at Rs5bn as compared to Rs2.5-Rs3bn last year.

As local media reported that, as compare to previous year sales began in mid July, almost two weeks earlier than the last year. In the mean time, bubbly exercises including banner raising, firecrackers and musical shows and light of government structures are required to two fold this year.

Owner of VIP Flags, Sheikh Nisar Ahmad Parchamwala told, “Our sales have already gone up by over 100pc this year and well surpassed our targets,” local media reported. “It seems people of Karachi are being extra zealous than people from other parts of the country,” he added.

He also claimed there was thin demand for flags and other items from political parties.

“Good thing is that many schools are also celebrating August 14 and holding functions this year. Additional demand this year came from some religious institutions and mosques which are arranging flag hoisting ceremonies coupled with some other celebrations.”

A retailer at Gurumandir was seen offering 1.5 ft banner for Rs100. He said the same estimated banner was valued at Rs80 a year ago, referring to the 5-10pc climb in wholesale rates as the reason. One arrangement of bangles (2 inch size) can be obtained at Rs100 when contrasted with Rs80 a year ago.

Stalls are full of flags, T-shirts with trousers, bangles, badges, wrist bands, caps, face masks, glasses, balloons and CDs of national songs etc, to make this independence cheerful.
