Ministry of Science and technology (S&T) has approved Rs 37.41 million "Pilot production of silicon solar cells and modules" project here on Wednesday. The objective of this renewable energy development project is to cope with the shortage of power in the country and ensure power supply to the remote areas. For this project, Pakistan Council of Renewable Energy Technologies (PCRET), here, will be executing agency, says a news statement issued here.
Federal Minister for S&T, Chaudhry Nouraiz Shakoor on this occasion said that renewable energy was the priority area of the government for the development and poverty alleviation of rural masses. Setting up a pilot production plant of solar cells and modules was a step in that direction, he added.
This very advanced form of energy is for regions that are far from the grid line and there is no likelihood of its electrification in near future. Unfortunately, there are many such regions in Pakistan.
Production from the proposed plant besides providing solar electricity to remote areas will also enhance activities of the private sector/industry in the allied fields such as batteries, inverters, charge regulators and many other applications. A section of marketing has also been proposed in this project.
The minister said that project would improve the socio-economic conditions of the people in the remote areas that were deprived of the basic necessities of life.-PR
