A journalist has filed petition in Sindh High Court on Thursday seeking ban on release of Bollywood film "Nazar" in Pakistan, which generated controversy after bold performance of film actress Meera with Indian actor. Syed Muzaffar Hussain Askari submitted that Meera's actions were against Islamic ethic and moral values depicted in the Article of Constitution and are also violation of various provisions of law, including "Motion Pictures Ordinance 1979, Censorship of Films Rules 1980, Censorship Code 1980 as well as section 292 and 294 of PPC.
Petitioner stated that he had no efficacious, alternate remedy except filing Constitutional petition because issues are related to life-style of Muslims, Islamic teachings, and image of entire Pakistani nation and if such matter was not given due consideration the general public would suffer irreparable loss and shall be seriously prejudiced.
The court was prayed to direct Ministries of Religious affairs and Cultural and tourism to proceed legally against Meera for having violated the Islamic teachings, as well as, for her flagrant act of violating the Articles of Pakistan.
Besides, the direction was also sought to ensure Meera is censured for her unscrupulous actions in the film and direct her to undertake before respondent officials as well as High Court that she would not repeat such indecent act in future.
Nazar (Sight) is the first-ever joint production between Indian and Pakistani film industry, directed by Indian Director Mahesh Bhutt, in which Meera performed allegedly kissing scene with Indian actor Ashmit Patel.
