Pakistan welcomes the role of civil society in developing and promoting peaceful relations with India, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said here on Saturday. Talking to a delegation of Pakistan Peace Coalition here, the Prime Minister however stated that Pakistan sincerely believes that meaningful progress can only be made if the core issue of Kashmir is resolved in line with the aspirations of the people of Kashmir.
The Prime Minister recounted the various initiatives taken by Pakistan for improving relations with India and said that the Kashmir issue can be resolved by the two countries if they demonstrate, courage magnanimity leadership and flexibility.
Pakistan, the Prime Minister said, offered an energy corridor to India because it believed that this create interdependency and linkages thus creating better atmosphere for promoting peace in the region.
On Baglihar Dam and Kishanganga project, the Prime Minister said these were related to the country's water security and were cause of concern to Pakistan.
Shaukat Aziz urged the delegation to use their good offices to create an atmosphere where the Saarc forum could be used to move ahead for the prosperity and progress of South Asia.
If South Asia can have genuine peace the future of this area can be transformed he added.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan is a peaceful country believes that a sustainable relationship can only be maintained if it is based on equity and mutual respect.
Pakistan views itself as an anchor of peace and has a major role to play in the Muslim Ummah as well as in the region, he added.
Dr A.H, Nayyar headed the delegation of the Pakistan Peace Coalition.
