A four-member delegation of water resources experts from USA, led by Dr Ingrid M. Verstraeten of US Geological Survey, is on a two-week visit to Pakistan to discuss modalities of water resources development projects.
THESE ARE: Integrated Water Resources Management in Pakistan, Assessment of Water Quality in Pakistan, Water Treatment Using Desalination Technology and other methods in Pakistan, recently singed between US water sector agencies and the Pakistan Council of Research in Water (PCRWR) under Pak-US Programme of Co-operation in Science & Technology.
The visit is a follow-up of a similar visit undertaken by PCRWR delegation to USA in February this year. The delegation held its opening meeting with Dr Muhammad Akram Kahlon, chairman, PCRWR, in his office on Monday to discuss mechanism and underline priorities to initiate the protocol. It was decided in the meeting that there was a lot of scope for PCRWR to benefit from experiences and facilities of its US counterparts and vice versa. Later, the PCRWR scientists gave a detailed presentation on national water quality monitoring, arsenic assessment monitoring labs and filtration units in 107 districts of Pakistan undertaken by the council.-PR
