The Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Research underscored the need for constitution of a framework and mechanism required for the linkage between industry, education and the institutes of science and technology. The sub-committee met in the Parliament House here on Monday under the chairmanship of Senator Professor Muhammad Saeed Siddiqui.
Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) Chairman Farid A Malik gave a detailed briefing on the working and performance of the Pakistan Science Foundation. He informed the Sub-Committee commercialisation and application of research in the fields of science and technology was the key to socio-economic development. He also submitted recommendations for improving the performance of PSF in the fields of S&T Research.
In another briefing by Professor Dr Muhammad Saleem from Federal Dawood College of Engineering and Technology Karachi informed the Committee that administrative and financial drawbacks in the institute were identified and eliminated with the passage of time.
He said the institute was then working efficiently, imparting standard technical education to the students from different parts of the country. He also extended an informal invitation to the members of the sub-committee to visit the institute and gave suggestions for further improvements.
Senator Professor Muhammad Saeed Siddiqui the Convenor of the Sub-Committee observed it was the need of the hour to grant administrative and financial autonomy to Science and Technological organisations to make them result oriented organisations. He also lauded the efforts and contributions of Farid A Malik Chairman PSF to making it a valuable organisation in the fields of science and technology.
Senators Professor Muhammad Saeed Siddiqui, Roshan Khursheed Bharucha and Professor Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, besides the Senate Standing Committee Chairman Senator Razina Alam Khan attended the meeting. Secretary Ministry of Science & Technology and other senior officers from attached departments of the ministry were also present.
