Top Indian Left leaders General Secretary Communist Party (Marxist), Harkishan Singh Surjeet and his CPI counterpart A B Bardhan have commended the honesty and sincerity of President General Pervez Musharraf in addressing all the issues between Pakistan and India. The two Left leaders, who recently paid an eight-day visit to Pakistan have expressed that the time is ripe for fast-forward confidence building measures (CBMs) between the two countries.
Harkishan Singh Surjeet had also an opportunity to reminisce his days as underground activist during the freedom struggle as it was his first visit to Pakistan after partition.
The two leaders came back deeply impressed by President Pervez Musharraf's honesty and sincerity towards resolving all the differences related to Pak-India relations, said a news report carried by leading Indian Daily 'Hindustan Times'.
"He (President Musharraf) is frank and answered all our queries honestly during the meeting," said Harkishan Singh Surjeet.
People-to-people contact had played a big role in building the right ambience the Left leaders observed. They also met Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz during their stay in Pakistan.
Unveiling the details of the trip to Pakistan they said, "small hurdles" should not come in the way of strengthening ties and the two countries should use current cordial relations to resolve all issues amicably.
