Minister for Population Welfare Chaudhry Shahbaz Hussain said that Pakistan will host an International Ulema Conference on May 4 to create awareness among the people about the family planning. Speaking in a PTV programme "News Morning" on Monday, he said renowned ulema from 24 countries including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Tanzania, Morocco, Bangladesh, China, India and London would be invited to participate in the conference.
The basic aim of the conference is to create awareness among the local ulema and people that family planning programme is not against the basic principles of Islam, he added.
The Minister said crash programme would also be chalked out to involve the imams (clerics) of mosques to convey family planning message across the country in the effective way.
He said the government was also planning to initiate eight- week crash courses for ulemas in near future. The course will enable them to convey their message more effectively.
The ulema after completing the course would be eligible for honorarium from the ministry, he added.
The minister said the government was committed to establish more family planning centers across the country along with the upgradation of existing centers.
To a question, he said the ministry had produced positive results during the first eight months of the current financial year due to hard efforts of its workers.
He said it was also under consideration to establish monitoring system in collaboration with the provinces to evaluate the performance of various departments working under the population ministry.
Replying to a question, he said the government was focusing on the education of women, as it was an effective tool to control the population growth.
Chaudhry Shahbaz said it was also under-consideration to help women in taking soft loans and setting-up small business.
Replying to another question, he said medicines being used for family planning had no negative impact, if taken in accordance with doctor's advice.
About the Population House, he said it would have all the 21st Century facilities such as research center, auditorium, library and gymnasium, etc.
