Federal Minister for Education Lieutenant General, Javed Ashraf Qazi (Retd) has said that government was taking steps to strengthen and improve education system for the betterment of students in the country. Talking to PTV he said that Aga Khan Board was given the responsibility of taking examination in 2002, which was a progressive step and added that unreasonable propaganda was being carried out against AKB for political ends, but the board would help improve quality education in the country.
He said first examination under the board would be conducted in 2007 and up to that time the board would prepare teachers of private affiliated schools for the system. Replying to another question he said, all existing government boards would also remain in function. However, he said, the government boards had been asked to improve their examination system in order to keep pace with international standards.
Commenting on the credibility of existing boards he said that every professional institution was conducting its own exams to enrol new students, even position holders had to appear in these pre-entry exams.
He said, AKB had been given the responsibility to prepare an examination system based on national curriculum and it would be only for private schools-and not for the government schools. AKB would follow national curriculum and syllabus. Only those private schools would be attached to the board that voluntarily want to be affiliated with it.
Efforts to impart demand-oriented education in the country were underway and added that President General Pervez Musharraf had asked that purposeful education should be given to the students.
