The discipline of biochemistry was ignored in the past and was not accorded due status. Karachi University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui stated this here on Monday. He was delivering presidential address at the four-day workshop under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) organised by the Department of Biochemistry - Liaquat College for Medicine and Dentistry in collaboration with the University of Karachi Department of Biochemistry.
The Vice-Chancellor was of the view the subject of biochemistry was ignored in the past mainly because there was no realisation and awareness about the importance of this subject. He pointed out the curriculum of biochemistry was not revised until the HEC paid attention towards that aspect.
Professor Pirzada added in this modern era, the technology had created a great deal of diversity in the process of teaching as well as the research. He stated the improvements in the examination system would also benefit the students. The Vice-Chancellor opined that with the introduction of the grading system for the universities and institutions, a person would be in a position to grade the educational institutions himself. He believed such an atmosphere would foster the educational culture as well as the interaction among the students and teachers.
