Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan described the criticism on revival of Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) as undue and based on lack of knowledge. He said the step taken in the first phase was an important progress towards complete rehabilitation of circular railway and streamlining its operation on modern lines. He was speaking as chief guest at a reception hosted by Adam Education Foundation President Professor Surgeon Faiz Mohammed Khan at a local hotel on Sunday night.
In the reception, the speakers eulogised the services during two years performance of Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan. Provincial Transport Minister Adil Siddiqi, Additional Advocate General Qazi Khalid Ali, Dr Mohammed Ali Shah, SITE Association Chairman Dr Ikhtiar Baig, host Surgeon Faiz Mohammed Khan and others addressed the reception that was largely attended by senior doctors, lawyers, engineers, industrialists, businessmen and city elite.
Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan said the complete rehabilitation of Circular Railway and to win the best expressions by investors, it was imperative it should had been visible on ground. At present, he pointed out, the service was being managed by a private operator and on the first day 630 passengers travelled and within next two days, the number rose to 1300. "We will have to promote positive attitudes for the development of the city," the Governor emphasised.
Addressing the function, the speakers said Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan had given a demonstration of best performance in all the fields, including law and order. Provincial Minister Adil Siddiqi called for collective efforts for the progress of Sindh Province. "We have the courage and capacity to undertake any mega work," he said adding it was also the message from which we all love and Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad was an example. He informed full attention was being paid on the establishment of small and medium size units while required facilities were being provided for cottage industries and a lot of work done in that regard.
He said special measures were being taken for the establishment of an industrial estate over 110 acres of land and which Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz would inaugurate.
SITE Association Chairman Dr Ikhtiar Baig while mentioning about Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad's co-operation in the industry and trade sectors spoke of his significant achievements in the light of facts and figures. He said restoration of law and order and holding of international events were reflective of the same. He said all the business and industrial organisations of the province acknowledged his services with an open heart. He said the efforts of the governor had cast good impact on the economic activities of the country and province and gave rise to creation of job opportunities. He observed governor's efforts had been duly acknowledged in projecting the positive image of Karachi at the international level, which had made the export of Pakistani products world over with good credibility and confidence.
