Karachi Nazim Naimatullah Khan has said that it was necessary to give powers of magistrate to officers of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to control the increasing prices of milk, sugar, wheat and other essential items. The City Nazim was talking to members of the monitoring and inspection team of Sindh Local Government, led by M A Iqbal, who called on him at his office here on Monday. During the meeting, Naimatullah briefed about various ongoing projects launched by the CDGK and said that most of these projects have been started on the BOT basis.
Naimatullah told the visiting team that the agreement has been reached with an American firm for the construction of the first Mass Transit Corridor from Tower to Sohrab Goth. Besides, the Nazim said, work is underway to complete 471 transit shelters and 28 overhead bridges at different areas of Karachi to facilitate the citizens.
Naimatullah was of the view that the CDGK has been working in accordance with the ordinance of the Sindh Local Government.
District co-ordination officer (DCO) Fazlur Rehman on the occasion briefed the visiting team about the projects and achievements of the CDGK.
The DCO said that the city government has prepared three different emergency relief plans to meet any untoward situation emerging in the city such as fire, cyclone, earthquake, etc. Director General, Iqbal Ahsan Zaidi, Director Administration, Danish Saeed and other officials were also attended the meeting.
