The Provincial Minister for Prisons Saeed Akbar Khan granted two-month' s amnesty to all prisoners lodged in Adiala Central Jail, but the prisoners facing sentence under murder, terrorism and other heinous crimes would not attain this facility. Minister granted this amnesty to prisoners during his visit to Adiala Jail. DIG Prisons Nasir Mehmood Warraich and other high officials accompanied him.
He visited the barracks in the jail and inquired the jail inmates about their problems. He also inquired about the treatment, provision of food and other facilities.
The prisoners informed the minister that they were not being presented in the court for months, which was prolonging their detention and delaying the disposal of their cases.
The Minister, while talking to prisoners, said the provincial government was looking for legislation to make sure that prisoners who got death sentence from the District and Sessions Judge should not be shifted to condemn cells till high court endorsed the judgement.
He assured the prisoners shifted from Shabarghan Prison of Afghanistan that government would take immediate measures for their release. "We believe in provision of easy and quick justice to masses, and people would very soon see visible changes in the judicial system of the country", he added.
Minister directed the jail officials to make sure immediate shift of the prisoners belonging to other provinces and districts. He also directed the jail officials to make necessary arrangements for the release of prisoners who were languishing in the jails for non-payment of fine.
He sent various prisoners to hospital that were ill, and ordered the jail officials to remove grills around the death cells.
