Malaysian investors have expressed readiness to embark upon joint venture in the sectors of construction, IT, energy, computer hardware, city planning and tourism to further promote bilateral trade ties between the two brotherly countries. The announcement came during a bilateral discussion held here between the Malaysian trade delegation and Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) on Monday.
12-member Malaysian delegation, led by Tan Sri Emeritiu, includes Professor Syed Jalaluddin Syed Salim, Chairman of Bank Rakhyat, Chairil Nazir Ahmed, Director of Stellagen Corporation, Mohammad Hafiz Hashim, Managing Director of Urbani Malaysia and Shahid Ali, Managing Director of GTS Global Technological Support.
ICCI President, Tariq Sadiq led the chamber side in the discussion. The Malaysian team highly appreciated the ICCI gesture for hosting recently the delegation of Malaysian businessmen led by Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi and indicated that this gesture had been received well by the Malaysian business community at large and laid the foundation stone for promoting and strengthening economic and trade ties between the two brotherly countries.
The present visit of the Malaysian investors is a follow-up of that high-level delegation, they stated.
The discussion with the visiting delegation was mainly focused on joint ventures in the sectors of tourism, construction and city planning, steel energy development, palm oil cultivation in Pakistan and information technology.
Tariq Sadiq informed the visitors that Pakistan has a very conducive environment for foreign investment and urged them to seriously consider investment in Pakistan. He offered ICCI's full support to the visitors.
At the conclusion of the meeting, ICCI's insignia was presented to the leader of the visiting delegation.
Meanwhile, the ICCI has expressed dismay on cancelling of plots allotted for the establishments of woodworks, sanitary, auto & steel fabricators. The CDA had cancelled the allotment due to non-deposit of dues by certain allottees.
The said plots lacked basic facilities like electric, gas and water.
In a statement, the ICCI has said that the issue was raised before the CDA Chairman, Kamran Lashari and Board members on their visit to the ICCI. The CDA Chairman agreed in principle to reinstate the cancelled plots on the payment of their balance dues, but the decision has not yet been put into effect.
It said that the IESCO has demanded eight million from the CDA for providing electricity, but this amount has not yet been deposited by the CDA.
The ICCI has demanded of the CDA to restore the cancelled plots forthwith without any extra charges.
