The groundbreaking ceremony of Rs 1.2 billion sewerage treatment plant (STP) extension will be held on Wednesday. Federal Minister for Interior, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao will open the extension phase at I-9 sewerage treatment plant. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) and French firm OTV had signed an agreement to reactivate and expand the existing sewerage treatment plant, which was established in 1965-66 in Sector I-9 to treat drain water of the seven sectors of the capital city and utilise it for commercial, industrial and agriculture purposes.
The French government has provided Rs 1 billion loan for the project. A French firm has been asked to complete the project within three years. The Rs 1.22 million project includes maintenance, improvement and rehabilitation of STP phase-I, II, III and construction of phase 4.
