The Joint Doctors Action Committee on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court to sentence Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arshad Waheed for seven years for providing medical treatment to some al Qaeda activists and local extremists, in front of Karachi Press Club. A number of doctors, women and children holding banners and placards chanted slogans against the decision and demanded immediate release of doctor brothers.
President, Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) Dr Misbahul Aziz said on this occasion that they are protesting against government, which, what he said, pressurised the court for this decision.
He said that both the doctors were respectable and peaceful citizens of this country and not involved in any terrorist activity. Both of them served a lot in many relief activities in the country, he added.
He condemning the government attitude termed that imprisonment of doctor brothers in a baseless case.
The General Secretary Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Dr Shershah Syed said that they have the right of appeal and they will file the appeal against this decision in the higher court.
Dr Rasool Bakhsh, President, National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD) Doctors Action Committee criticising the government called the verdict non-transparent.
They announced that Joint Doctors Action Committee would discuss its next strategy in meeting on Wednesday.
