The Lahore High Court (LHC), while admitting a petition for regular hearing, issued notice to senior member Board of Revenue (BoR) with directions to submit a reply in the petition filed by one Abdul Ghafoor and others praying to the court to direct the respondents to stop process of reconciliation of land in the Langrial village, Kharian. The petitioners contended that the process of reconciliation of land in their village is continued for last 18 years and has not so far completed.
It was contended that the respondent revenue officials are making money from the residents of their village by allotting land to other persons illegally and without lawful authority. He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to stop the process of reconciliation of land.
The court, after hearing the petitioner's counsel at length, admitted the petition for regular hearing and issued notices to the respondent.
BADR SUMMONED: An accountability court on Tuesday adjourned the proceedings till March 25, in a reference against former federal minister and secretary general PPPP Jehangir Badr with directions to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
The court observed that if the accused failed to appear before the court on next date of hearing, the court would be forced to issue his bailable arrest warrants.
The accused had submitted an application to the court with prayer to exempt him from appearing before the court.
The law officer contended that the petition is not maintainable, as the petitioner has already proceeded abroad. He prayed to the court to dismiss the petition and direct the respondent to appear before the court on next date of hearing.
The accused has been facing the charges of corruption and making illegal assets in excess of his income.
PETITION DISMISSED: A local civil judge dismissed a petition filed by one Muhammad Saleem, praying to the court to exempt him from wearing helmet.
Earlier, the law officer appeared before the court and contended that the government has taken the decision regarding compulsory wearing of helmet in the public interest. He prayed to the court to dismiss the petition for being not maintainable.
The petitioner contended that he used to wear turban and it is difficult for him to use helmet. He prayed to the court to direct the respondent police officials not to disturb the petitioner and others who used to wear turban.
The court after hearing both the sides dismissed the petition in limine for being not maintainable.
SHARIF FAMILY UNITS: The Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned the proceedings till April 04, in the matter pertaining to disposal of four units of Sharif family, as one its members withdrew his contempt petition.
A committee constituted by the august court for disposal of the four units of Sharif family had auctioned the said units, but one of Sharif family members Ilyas Miraj had challenged the auction process and also moved a contempt petition. However, the petitioner withdrew the petition and the LHC adjourned the matter till next date of hearing.
It may be mentioned that Nawaz Sharif had handed over four units of Ittefaq Group of Industries to clear liabilities of his group.
SHO DIRECTED: The LHC has directed SHO Civil Lines Faisalabad to produce Yousaf Asim, clerk of Excise & Taxation Department on March 28.
The court passed these directions in a petition filed by one Muhammad Yousaf, father of the detenue. The court also directed the respondent SHO to submit his reply to the petition by next date of hearing.
The petitioner contended that his son was involved in a corruption case and the respondent police officials had taken away his son in October last, but police was not allowing his family members to see him. He also contended that the respondent police officials also registered fake case against him. He prayed to the court to direct the respondent police officials to produce him before the court. He also prayed to the court to direct the respondent police officials to quash the FIR registered against him.
The court, after hearing petitioner's counsel M.D. Tahir advocate at length, issued notice to the respondent SHO and directed him to produce the detainee before the court on next date of hearing.
DNA TEST: The Lahore High Court adjourned the proceedings in a bail application for arguments on a point whether or not DNA test could be made a witness against a person involved in Hudood case as amicus curiae Ismail Qureshi sought time to submit his submissions before the court.
According to details, one Azhar had approached the august court for bail with contention that he was involved in a criminal case illegally and without lawful authority on the point of DNA test.
The petitioner was facing a charge of having illicit relations with a woman as a result of which she gave birth to a baby. Her husband Abid on the basis of DNA test report got registered FIR against the petitioner for having relations with his wife.
The petitioner is of the view that DNA test could not be made witness against any person. He contended that the respondent police officials illegally and without lawful authority got registered a criminal case against him. He prayed to the court to declare that DNA test could not be made witness and allow bail to him in the case.
