The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) would provide maximum help to the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) to strengthen the university-industry linkages and to evolve a solid strategy for human resource development. The consensus in this regard was developed at a meeting between the LCCI President Mian Misbahur Rehman and Vice-chancellor University of Engineering and Technology Lieutenant General Muhammad Akram (Retd) here on Tuesday.
LCCI Senior Vice President Sohail Lashari, Vice President Sheikh Muhammad Arshad and Executive Committee Member Kashif Mehr also attended the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, the UET vice-chancellor said that increased globalisation of trade has opened up a new era of opportunities for world-wide industrial sector and to exploit these opportunities to the maximum the local industry and the universities have to play an important role to operate in international scenario. He was of the view that a tangible collaboration between local industry and academia is the only way out for better results. He also promised to take necessary measures on the suggestions put forward by the LCCI office-bearers.
He also invited the LCCI president to bring a delegation to the university for having first hand knowledge about the working of various faculties.
Misbahur Rehman said on the occasion that it is high time for taking to full height the linkage between the industry and the UET for economic growth and prosperity, as the country had been suffering due to lacking this relationship. He was of the view that the scenario depicts discouraging picture and now there is a realisation that the university needs the help of industrialists to provide proper human resource to the industry. The LCCI is aware of the situation and is working to improve the technical know how with special reference to the industry requirements. In order to develop an interactive and independent economic system in a shortest possible time, the three stakeholders; government, industry and educational institutions, need to take concrete measures for a meaningful co-operation.
The LCCI Senior Vice President Sohail Lashari said on the occasion that the linkage between industry and the institutions is dire need of the hour. After the creation of understanding between the industry and educational institutions, placement of the students would become easier, he added.
The LCCI Vice President Sheikh Arshad lauded the efforts of the vice-chancellor of UET for ensuring discipline in the university. He urged the vice-chancellor to give some attention towards the chemical industry, as no work is being done for this particular industry. He also urged the vice-chancellor to help government establish a gold testing laboratory in the country, as Pakistan is suffering due to absence of such a laboratory.
