An integrated phased-plan has been chalked out to further strengthen the police force in Azad Kashmir with the induction of at least 1,200 constables in the force, disclosed Shahid Hassan Qureshi, Inspector General of Police Azad Kashmir. He was talking to newsmen here late Monday during his daylong visit of Mirpur. DIG Police Mirpur Range Abdul Khaliq, DIG Headquarter Muzaffarabad Tahir Qayyum Sheikh and Senior Superintendent of Police Mirpur Raja Nasim Ahmed Khan Additional SP Chaudhry Mohammad Rafique accompanied the state Police Chief.
Shahid Hassan Qureshi said police force in all seven districts of the liberated area was facing severe force insufficiency while 85 percent of the transport in police department had completed worn out and the wireless system was very old failing to meet the present day requirement.
Shahid said that in order to overcome the shortage of the police force, at least 1200 fresh 'jawans' would be recruited under a phased program.
He said during the first leg, 375 sops had been recruited, in the second phase of the plan 300 more constables would be added in the force in all seven districts of AJK.
Referring to the plan for the availability of latest transport for the police, the IGP said that nine used vehicles equipped with required equipment including wireless system had been purchased from Motorway Police.
He described the overall law and order situation in Azad Kashmir as satisfactory. He also appreciated the judicial activism of the courts in AJK under the spirit to provide speedy and inexpensive justice to the needy by the courts and the administration.
To a question, the IGP said that there had been no any incident of looting or highway robbery on two routes leading to Mirpur districts from Rawalpindi since last two years.
