Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan, Dr Emil Ghitulescu said Francophonie was playing important role in bringing different cultures and civilisations closer through cultural activities. The Ambassador said this on Monday while addressing the opening ceremony of the March 14 to 21 film festival organised by the Francophonie Islamabad as part of the International Week of Francophonie. In 2005, the programme of the Francophonie Week in Islamabad comprises various cultural manifestations including Film Festival of the Francophonie countries.
The film festival began with a Canadian movie "Seducing Doctor Lewis" (La Grande Seduction) followed by other projections at the Alliance Francaise.
Canadian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Margaret Huber also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of the Francophonie and its cultural as well as learning activities.
High Commissioners and Charges d' Affairs of organising countries participated in the opening ceremony of the film festival.
A large number of people from diplomatic corp and members of the Francophonie besides others participated in the opening ceremony of the International week of Francophonie.
Minister for Foreign Affairs, Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri will be chief guest in the main function of the Francophonie's week scheduled to be held here on March 18 at 7 pm at a local hotel.
The chief guest of the main function and Dr Emil Ghitulescu, Ambassador of Romania, on behalf of the Francophonie group will present Frnacophonie Award-2005 to Chairman Higher Education Commission, Dr Atta-ur- Rehman.
Appreciating the participation of Pakistanis in the Francophonie's activities, Romanian Ambassador said, "I am very much impressed upon the enthusiasm shown every year by the Pakistani people in connection with this event meant to celebrate, especially through the instrumentality of culture, the dialogue among civilisations, tolerance and the lasting solidarity of human beings all over the world.
