Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) former President Tariq Sayeed has requested the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) not to oppose the bail for the release of Salma Ahmed. In a statement to the press issued here, he expressed surprise over the non-bailable warrant against her in an old case, particularly after the removal of her name from the Exist Control List (ECL) by the NAB itself in November last.
The NAB rules should be flexible in the cases, which were old and had not been fairly and thoroughly scrutinised, he added.
Tariq said the Export Promotion Bureau released funds for such projects, which were regularly monitored and audited.
Since facts leading to the detainment of Salma Ahmed were not known, it would be too early to comment on it at that stage, he said, adding that highlighting the matter after a long time had created doubts in the minds of the people.
The details of that case should be made public, he said. Tariq Sayeed said the NAB should review the case of Salma Ahmed in the light of her services for the promotion of economic activities amongst women folk of the country.
He requested the NAB's higher authorities not to oppose the bail for her release on humanitarian grounds because she had 90-year old mother to look after.
