Raw sugar futures closed firmer Wednesday on buying by the trade and small speculators, with bullish fundamentals seen keeping prices near their recent highs, analysts said. The New York Board of Trade's May raw sugar contract edged up 0.01 cent to end at 9.15 cents a lb, dealing from 9.11 to 9.20 cents. July was flat 9.32 cents. The rest were unchanged to 0.09 cent better.
Sugar has rallied strongly after news of buying from top importers Russia and India and a widening gap in the global supply deficit of the sweetener, the analysts said.
