One day symposium under the auspices of the Department of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Postgraduate Medical Institute, Hayatabad Medical Complex, will start at a local hotel here on Friday. The head of Diabetes and Endocrinology Department Dr Aziz-ul-Hasan Aamir told APP that the day long symposium was aimed at to aware the general public about the deadly disease.
Dr Aziz-ul-Hasan Aamir said that final touches have been given to the arrangements as prominent doctors will be attending the symposium the first time in the provincial metropolis to give suggestions and recommendations to arrest the increasing diseases in this part of the world.
He said the department with the collaboration of Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES) and Agha Khan University hospital is organising the symposium in which different speakers from all over the country will deliver lectures regarding diabetes, metabolic syndrome, thyroid problems, lipid problems and growth problems.
"We want to aware the common man suffering from these diseases and to guide them in at a early stage in order to arrest these diseases well in time," Dr Aziz added.
Diabetes, he said, is a disorder of the body's metabolism, the process of converting the food we eat into energy. Insulin is the major factor in this process, which begins when food is broken down during digestion to create glucose, the main source of fuel for the body.
Despite all advances in diabetes treatment, he said, awareness remains the cornerstone of diabetes management.
