Russia will soon bring into service two new submarines, one nuclear and one diesel, the navy said Thursday. The nuclear-powered Dmitry Donskoi is a fourth generation, strategic missile launching submarine of the 941 "Akula" class, a navy spokesperson told the ITAR-TASS news agency. It was tested in June 2002 and will be put in service after testing of new armaments.
The second is the Saint Petersburg, a fourth generation diesel-electric torpedo submarine of the 677 "Lada" class.
