The Punjab government is spending more than Rs 750 million on different schemes for the welfare of industrial workers during the current fiscal year in Sialkot district. Official sources told APP here on Tuesday that under the programme another housing colony for the industrial workers would be constructed at Sialkot-Sambrial Road costing more than Rs 500 million and work on the project would be carried out soon.
The proposed housing colony would consist of 1,000 flats where all modern facilities would be made available for the dwellers.
The step was being taken to minimise the problems pertaining to accommodation being faced by the industrial workers of this export-oriented city, the sources added.
The sources said the construction work on an ultra modern 100-bed hospital was in full swing in Sialkot where cardiology, gynaecology and haemodialysis treatment facilities would be available for the workers under the programme.
The hospital would be completed at a cost of Rs 120 million while Rs 150 million would be utilised on equipping the hospital with latest machinery.
The industrial workers and their dependants would be able to avail modern health cover after the completion of the hospital at local level, the official claimed.
Financial assistance was also being extended to the industrial workers for their children from primary to higher level education in various institutions, the sources added.
