NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman has asked transporters to focus on their responsibilities; not to be influenced by anyone else and provide proper transport facilities to the commuters. Talking to a 20-member delegation of transporters, led by MPA Nigahat Orakzai, which called on him at Governor's House here on Tuesday, the governor said transport is highly important sector which have a direct impact on the day-to-day life of the people. Therefore, he added, the transporters should make special efforts to upgrade the standard of their services.
He also mentioned the trend of strikes and said such negative activities are neither in the interest of the country nor the respective stakeholders. Rather, he said, it causes to multiply the difficulties of the people.
"If transporters face any problem they should bring it to the notice of the concerned quarters through a proper way and get it resolved," he advised.
Responding to a point raised on this occasion, the governor welcomed the spirit of members of the delegation for not indulging in any type of strikes and continuing their business smoothly.
In fact, the governor said, there exists a vast scope for bringing further improvement in the transport-related system and expressed the hope that the transporters would respond positively for ensuring the availability of quality and safe transport facilities to the commuters.
Expressing concern over the increasing road accidents, he said there was a dire need that not only the transport workers should be properly trained and educated but an atmosphere should also be created and mechanism developed by the transporters themselves so as the over speeding could be discouraged, which he remarked is one of the important cause of the accidents.
Responding to offers made by the delegation with regard to making more investments in the transport-related business and further improving the transport facilities as well as their certain demands, the governor assured them that the concerned quarters would be approached to open new avenues to accommodate their point of view.
Former provincial minister Agha Syed Ali Shah also accompanied the delegation on this occasion.
Earlier the members of the delegation apprised the governor about their problems and thanked him for providing an opportunity to meet him.
