India and Pakistan have agreed to start rail service between Munabao and Khokhrapar, between provinces of Rajashtan and Sindh from October 2. Indian External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh said this on Tuesday in Lok Sabha (lower house of parliament) while replying to a debate on the aid on the Table on March 9 on developments in Nepal and his visits to Afghanistan and Pakistan. "The two countries have agreed to start rail service between Rajasthan's Munabao and Pakistan's Khokhrapar on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2,' he said.
Singh said the railway line from Munabao was broad gauge, but from Kokhrapar to the border it was meter gauge.
Pakistan authorities said there was technical difficulty in converting the meter gauge to broad gauge.
"I suggested that passengers from Munabao can get down at the border and then travel on the meter gauge line, and vice versa, to which Pakistan agreed,' he said.
Singh indicated that there was a possibility of starting bus service between Amritsar and Nankana Sahib from Baisakhi (April 13).
