Canadian Prime Minister Paul Anderson on Pakistan Day has lauded the role played by the Pakistanis in the progress and prosperity of Canada. Pakistan Day was celebrated with traditional fervour and enthusiasm in Canada. Several functions took place in its small and big cities, Voice of America (VOA) reported. The dinner ceremony was held on Wednesday night, which was attended by more than 1,000 people including Pakistanis and the Canadians.
Addressing the participants, Pakistan Council General in Toronto, Ghalib Iqbal paid tribute to the father of Nation, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He thanked Marthin's Mayor Don Pinson for naming two roads in his city on the name of two Pakistan cities.
One of them is called Peshawar Avenue, while the other under-construction road is named as Lahore street.
President Pervez Musharraf's message was read out on the occasion, which said that Pakistanis in Canada played their best role in improving ties between Islamabad and Ottawa. President hoped that the Pakistanis would prove helpful in further strengthening ties between the two countries. The President said a lot of sacrifices were offered for Pakistanis and now, all of us should join hands for the progress of the country.
