HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi Friday inked a memorandum of understanding with reputed Malaysian institution of higher learning "Universiti Teknologi MARA UiTM" to help the later in planning and organisation of its newly established institute for analysis of Herbal Remedies. Vice Chancellor Dr Pirzada Qasim on behalf of KU and VC Dr Seri Professor Dr Ibrahim Abu Shah on behalf of UiTM signed the memorandum.
According to MoU, HEJ would assist the Malaysian University in enhancing technical skills of its researchers with respect to operation of major instruments such as high filed NMP spectrometers, mass spectrometers, LC-MS and LC-NMR systems.
According to MoU, both parties agreed in principle to co-operate for enhancing teaching, learning, research and development among staff of both educational institutions in the field of natural product chemistry.
Depending on vacancies, UiTM agreed to hire young PhD from HEJ as contract lecturers with specific task of focusing on research. HEJ Research Institute agreed to train required young researchers (PhD students, laboratory technicians, research assistants, research officers, and young lecturers) for periods to be agreed upon, while UiTM will yearly reserve some full post-graduate scholarships for deserving students from HEJ and KU.
The MoU will remain effective for a period of three tears unless terminated by one of the educational institutions.
