Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Friday said that Pakistan has to formulate a strategy on priority basis to meet its future energy requirements to sustain the present rate of growth of economy. He said this while talking to Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Amanullah Jadoon, who called on him at the Prime Minister's House. Mukhtar Ahmad, Principal Energy Specialist Asian Development Bank, accompanied the minister.
Shaukat Aziz said that the government was considering four options for gas supplies to Pakistan, The first option is to procure gas from Turkmenistan. Second from Iran, third from Qatar and fourth option is liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The Prime Minister emphasised on the need to evaluate these options and submit concrete proposals, so that an early decision is taken and the economic momentum not only maintained but also accelerated.
Mukhtar Ahmad assured the Prime Minister that Asian Development Bank would extend all possible support including technical assistance to Pakistan for evaluation and formulation of concrete proposals and an energy strategy.
