Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is likely to formally launch the development of Sector I-15 for low-income groups on April 7, sources told Business Recorder on Friday. In this connection, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will request the Prime Minister Secretariat to invite the Prime Minister for inauguration. The issue was deliberately discussed at the CDA Board meeting held in the absence of Chairman of the authority, Kamran Lashari who is currently in Japan to finalise the Expo 2005 arrangements, sources added.
When contacted the responsible CDA official to comment the Shaukat Aziz's visit said that the date is yet not been confirmed but April 7, is a tentative date. We would send the written request to the PM Secretariat for launching the new sector, he pointed out.
The Board during the hurriedly called meeting has also taken up the issues of reviewing the lay out plan of I-15, sector's schedule and possibility of public-private partnership in building the housing units.
The detailed proposal was also presented to the CDA Board under which the civic authority would introduce open balloting of about 40 percent housing units instead of plots auction.
They also sought million-dollar investment from the multi-national companies in this sector, official source added.
These housing units would be constricted 40 percent plots measuring 5 to 7 marlas to facilitate the low salaried people living in the federal capital particularly the low grade government employees.
Other development issues regarding Sector I-15 was also came under discussion during the meeting. Sector I-15 is being built near Islamabad Haj Complex for those who have annual income not more than Rs 150, 000.
About 40 percent plots of different sizes would be allocated for low rank army officers including Jawans.
However, the remaining 60 percent plots were reserved for general public and low-income government employees.
It may be recalled that CDA has already signed a 'package deal' with nearly 600 villagers/victims of I-14. I-15 and I-15 over a month back to acquire the service road but so far the authority in assistance of ICT Administration has not been able to get acquisition.
The delay in development include financial irregularities, particularly in I- 14, I-15 and I-16 sectors, and controversy over compensation by CDA to the original landowners of D-12, D-13 and E-12 were the major obstacles of the launching of new sectors.
