Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) assured the gems and jewellery exporters it would make all out effort to remove procedural irritants in the export of Gems and Jewellery products, and efforts would be made to enhance the gems and jewellery exports. RCCI Standing Committee on Gems and Jewellery Chairman Tamiz-ud-din Nizami made this assurance in a meeting held here on Friday, which discussed the amendments in trade policy for Gems, and Jewellery sector proposed by Smeda. A Smeda representative gave detailed briefing to the meeting participants.
RCCI Senior vice president Jalil Ahmed Malik and Vice President Syed Asad Mashhadi also attended the meeting. The RCCI office bearers said the Export Promotion Bureau and Customs department would be pursued effectively to get their reservations addressed.
The Smeda representative said these amendments were proposed to facilitate the traders engaged with this business. He said the government was paying due attention to this sector and was offering a number of incentives in the sector. He said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka had recently signed a MoU on gems and jewellery, which would help boost this trade between the two countries.
The Committee Chairman Tamiz-ud-din Nizami and Vice Chairman Muhammad Fayyaz Qureshi, member Muhammad Ejaz and others said those amendments needed a critical review by all stakeholders and there should be more representation of all categories of people linked with this business while recommending certain amendments in trade policy for finaal approval of the government. It was decided the members of the committee would submit their written comments on the proposed amendments to Smeda.
