Death toll from Ghana port fire rises

Fire-fighters pulled two more bodies from the burnt-out wreck of a ship in Ghana's main port of Tema on Saturday and said the death toll from Friday's blaze was likely to rise to at least 11. Three bodies had already been recovered from the Greek vessel on Friday but emergency services called off the search because the heat from its metal hull was still too intense hours after the flames were extinguished. "We've brought out two more bodies today and we've seen between six and nine more but it is very dark and hot in there," said one fire-fighter as he emerged to get some air.
Smoke was still wafting from the MV Polaris, which was docked at Tema for repairs when it caught fire. Charred machinery littered the quayside and black debris floated on the water as shipyard workers began the cleanup operation.
