The Senate Standing Committee on Communication has taken strong cognisance of what it termed faulty and ill planned execution of Coastal Highway construction project. The committee met here on Monday, with Senator Kamil Ali Agha in the chair, observed the Coastal Highway was a life line for promoting inter provincial trade and other links and it should be made strong enough to meet natural calamities. The committee questioned the quality of work and material used in the construction, in the context of destruction of a part of highway during recent rains, and dam bursts in the province even before its completion in the whole.
The meeting asked the government to allocate more funds for maintenance of the Coastal Highway and directed the ministry to constitute a technical committee to review the design of the project.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) Chairman informed the committee that all roads in Balochistan were under construction to ensure safe journey to the people of the province.
However, he admitted they were being delayed due to the shortage of funds and other events, which were beyond their control.
Meanwhile, the Senate Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs demanded of the government for review of the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973.
