Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has said that the people would foil all attempts of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) to observe strike on Saturday, spokesman of the CM House said here on Friday. The MMA has given countrywide strike call on Saturday to lodge public protest against increase in prices of petroleum products and daily use items, worsening law and order situation and political instability in the country. The chief minister was talking to Pakistan Muslim League leaders who from across the province had gathered at the Chief Minister House on Thursday night.
He said that the PML was a united political party and it had the means to solve problems of the people. The party would use its influence to resolve issues that had been irksome for the people, he added.
Arbab said that the PML knew how to deal with strikes and agitational politics and it would use its influence to save the people from the ill effects of such protests and strike calls.
He said that the government was pro-people and traders-friendly. It was due to this relationship that the people were bringing in their money and investing in commercial activities. Foreign investment was also coming in and the expansion in business, trade, commerce and industrialisation was going on.
The chief minister said that Saudi Arabia, Dubai, China and Japan were some of the countries that had come to Sindh with investments.
He said that the government had been giving permissions to the opposition parties to take out rallies and stage protests. If they wanted to observe strike, the government didn't object.
He said, "Now they want to disturb the peace and tranquillity and impede economic progress which would not be tolerated."
Arbab said that it was time to use administrative powers. He would not let anybody take the government's resolve to stop strike lightly.
He said that on April 2 all the ministers, MPAs and MNAs would be present in their constituencies and perform their duties. They would foil all attempts to observe strike, he added.
He asked his coalition parties' ministers, MPAs and MNAs to visit markets and shopping areas and help the business community in running their businesses.
He said that the government had not taken political revenge. This gesture of goodwill should not be misconstrued as weakness of the government.
He said that the PML would take out a rally soon and show its strength and popularity among the people of Sindh.
Among the prominent leaders of the PML, provincial minister Altaf Unner, adviser Ghulam Rasool Unner, Azad bin Haider, Captain Haleem Siddiqui, Mehfoozyar Khan, Sahibzada Muneer, Aijaz Shah Shirazi, Dr Rahimul Haq, Dr Saeeda Malik, Dr Sultana Ibrahim, Begum Manzar Rawal and Begum Zaidi were present in the meeting.
