The law enforcing agencies arrested over 3,000 activists of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) from across the country including 1,500 from Karachi to foil the strike scheduled for Saturday, April 2. MMA chief Qazi Hussain Ahmad told newsmen at a press conference here on Saturday that police conducted raid at the residence of Syed Munawar Hassan in Karachi early on Saturday morning. Besides, the police also arrested those activists who were ill and to undergo bypass on Monday, he added.
The officials are violating the sanctity of 'Chadar and Chardewari' and illegal raids are still being conducted at the residences of MMA workers and leaders, he alleged.
Despite all these tactics adopted by the government, the strike on Saturday would remain successful, he claimed.
The decision to observe strike on Saturday was taken on the appeal of general public, traders and transporters, therefore, they would extend their co-operation and would shut down their businesses on April 2, he added.
Qazi Hussain also appealed the public to join the strike to express their resentment on the policies of the present government, which was bent upon to introduce secularism in the country. 'Our agitation would continue till the restoration of true democracy in the country, supremacy of parliament and restoration of constitution in its original shape', he added.
