Pakistan thrashed Ireland by a massive 255 runs in the first one-day international at Malahide on Thursday, Opening batsman Sharjeel Khan broke several records on his ODI comeback as he made a blistering 152 off 86 balls at Malahide.
His 152 coming off 86 balls with 16 fours and nine sixes, as he became the third Pakistan batsman to score 150-plus runs in One-Day Internationals (ODI) after Saeed Anwar and Imran Nazir.
Pakistan included two debutants in spin-bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz and seamer Hasan Ali, in a side captained by Azhar Ali, their limited overs skipper. However, there is also a return to ODI side for the first time in 16 months for the experienced Umar Gul. But pace man Wahab Riaz and leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who both featured in the recent 2-2 drawn Test series against England, were omitted.
Pakistan can now seal the two-match series when the teams meet again in Dublin on Saturday, ahead of Pakistan’s five-match ODI campaign in England.
However, Ireland registered a famous victory over Pakistan at the 2007 World Cup but there was to be no such repeat in Malahide on Thursday.
