Corps Commander Lieutenant General Safdar Hussain has categorically stated that no one would be allowed to disrupt peace, tranquillity and the development works initiated by the Pakistan Army in Waziristan. He was talking to a 30-member representative jirga of Mehsud tribe (Kekrai clan) of South Waziristan Agency, which called on him at Corps Headquarters here on Sunday and discussed about various uplift schemes in the area. The jirga assured the Corps Commander of their support against terrorism in the area and resolved to work shoulder to shoulder with the Army for uplift of the area.
Corps Commander said the co-operation extended by Mehsud tribe in the war against terrorism was commendable and government in recognition of their all out support has announced multipurpose development projects worth millions that would have positive impact on the socio-economic condition of the people. He said in its uplift strategy, Pakistan Army has accorded priority to infrastructure development, construction of schools, Basic Health Units and provision of other basic amenities of life.
Lieutenant General Safdar informed the jirga that General Headquarters (GHQ) has sanctioned two additional engineers' battalions to undertake development works in the area on fast track basis. He said Army Engineers have been directed to visit far-flung tribal areas and evaluate problems of tribesmen. He said more development projects would be initiated in the light of the recommendations made by the Army Engineers. On demand of the jirga, Lieutenant General Safdar announced that flood protection dams would be built in the area to save agricultural land from erosion and establishment of two telephone exchanges.
According to an ISPR release, Political Agent South Waziristan Agency Asmatullah Gandapur and other officials were also present on the occasion.
