Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has emphasised the need for bringing transparency in the affairs of co-operative housing societies and making them functional. He said the government was working on priority basis to improve the housing facilities and the very establishment of housing societies concerns the housing affairs and, therefore it was imperative to make their role more effective.
He was chairing a high-level meeting held at Governor House in which matters concerning the Co-operative societies in the Province were reviewed in detail. The Provincial Secretary Co-operative Mumtaz-ur-Rehman briefed the Governor about details thereof.
Advisor Local Government Waseem Akhtar, Advisor Excise and Taxation MA Jalil, City Nazim Naimatullah Khan, ACS Local Government, DIG operation, Registrar Co-operative Societies, Chief Controller of Buildings Brigadier AS Nasir (Retd) and other officials attended the meeting.
The Governor issued directive for computerising all record of co-operative societies along with action against certain societies, which are inactive or exist only on papers.
He said these societies had been given valuable lands for settlement of shelterless and the same should be utilised in a transparent manner for providing housing facilities.
