Chinese star Zhang Lian-Wei said on Tuesday that last week's Visa Dynasty Cup showdown had been a model of intra-Asian relations despite growing anti-Japanese feeling in China. Zhang, instrumental in Asia's win over Japan in Shenzhen, southern China, said the event had been played with impeccable sportsmanship as protests raged across the country for the third successive weekend. "At the Dynasty Cup we didn't see any links between politics and golf," said Zhang ahead of the 2.3 million dollar Johnnie Walker Classic here.
"Both teams tried to promote sportsmanship and the game of golf. Japan is part of Asia, everybody knows each other quite well so the whole tournament was very good and everybody had a good time."
Zhang, a five-time winner on the Asian Tour, remained undefeated in both editions of the Ryder Cup-style tournament after beating Asia's top-ranked player Shigeki Maruyama in the singles on Sunday.
